What are Domain Names?

Domain names will allow you to do several things including, placing a web site under your new domain name.
Having a professional sounding email address, which remains with you irrespective of which ISP you end up moving to in the future.
A domain name can be up to 63 characters long excluding the dot and 2 to 4 characters used to identify the top-level domain .BIZ, .COM, .INFO, .NET, .ORG, or .US. Valid characters in a domain name include letter, numbers and hyphens "-". The domain name must start with and end with a letter or number.
"http://" and "www." are not part of a domain name. Instead they are used with your domain name to form a URL (Universal Resource Locator) that can be used by web browsers to find your site on the World Wide Web.
